Building skills and confidence for everyday life

The Adult Training Facility (ATF) is a daytime program that helps adults with intellectual disabilities and autism lead successful lives and connect with others.

Individuals enrolled at the ATF will work on daily living skills, social development, communication, functional academics, community integration, physical exercise, computer skills, and pre-vocational and vocational training.

Volunteering also plays a major role in the ATF experience. Individuals work with community organizations such as Meals On Wheels, The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, Salvation Army Chapel, and the Washington County Food Bank.

Who it’s for

The Adult Training Facility serves individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism who are 18 years of age or older. Extended School Year and transition programs are available for individuals ages 14 through 21 who are currently in school. We also offer an Older Adult Daily Living Program for adults aged 60 and over.

The Adult Training Facility offers:

We help individuals find their niche in the workplace by understanding their skills and discovering what they love.

Individuals work with community organizations as part of their experience with the ATF.

In addition to volunteering, individuals actively engage with their community through activities like bowling, movies, cultural events, or the Pittsburgh Zoo.

The Older Adult Daily Living Program at our Washington location provides specialized attention to celebrate the abilities and talents of seniors with disabilities.

Common questions about Adult Training Facility

The Adult Training Facility supports individuals in their goals to increase independence and develop life skills, as reflected in their ISPs. ATF individuals range in age from transition-age youth through their senior years, and are encouraged to take part in various community opportunities.

Before enrollment, give us a call so we can review your Individual Support Plan (ISP) and make sure we can meet your needs. From there, we’ll schedule a tour of our facility. After the tour, both you and our team will have the chance to decide if the program is the right fit. If so, we’ll guide you through the enrollment packet and next steps.

Services can begin once a physical, TB test, and approved ISP are acquired and staffing levels are met. Generally, this process takes a few weeks.

No, all of our services are funded via the waivers, school funding (14 years to graduation), and private pay.

No, our day program is licensed under 55 Pa. Code Chapter 2380 and operates under the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP). We do not provide services under the Office of Long-Term Living (OLTL), including Managed Care, OBRA, or Independence Waivers.

We have facilities located in Greene and Washington county.

At the Adult Training Facility, each day offers a variety of activities and skill-building opportunities, both within the facility and out in the community. Daily schedules are guided by each individual’s goals and personal preferences. Skill development is focused on areas that individuals are interested in learning, while community participation is based on experiences they would like to explore.

A key component of our program is built around Education, Experience, and Exposure. This approach allows individuals to participate in activities they enjoy while also encouraging them to discover new opportunities they may not have tried before. Additionally, volunteer opportunities are available where individuals can practice and strengthen job readiness skills, communication, and social engagement.

The Older Adult Daily Living Program focuses on maintaining daily living skills, physical exercise, health monitoring, community integration, cooking, and other recreational/leisure time activities.
