At Your Child’s Place (YCP), teamwork is an important part of the care and support we provide every day. Every child is unique, and many benefit from a team of professionals working together to support their growth, development, health, and overall well-being. Doctors, specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, pharmacists, and nurses all play a role in helping children thrive.
As nurses, we communicate with all of these providers to help achieve the best possible outcomes for each child. We also help families by coordinating therapy schedules during the child’s time at YCP. In many ways, we help organize each child’s day to make sure therapies and services run smoothly and fit into their daily routine. Children are able to receive therapy right at our facility through outside therapists or through our neighbors at the UPMC CHP Child Therapy Center. This helps make scheduling easier for families and reduces the need for additional appointments after work hours.
Communication with families is another important part of what we do. Parents stay informed about their child’s progress through emails, texts, and regular meetings with therapists and staff. As nurses, we also help families better understand medical information and instructions from specialists. We know that doctor appointments and medical terminology can sometimes feel overwhelming, so we work to break information down into simpler, more manageable explanations. When needed, we will also contact doctors’ offices or specialists directly to ask questions or clarify orders, so everyone involved in the child’s care is working together with a shared understanding.
By always keeping the child at the center of everything we do, we are able to accomplish great things together. Working collaboratively helps us better understand each child’s individual strengths and needs while supporting holistic care, strong communication, and positive experiences for the children and families we serve.
