Supporting individuals in ways that reflect their personal goals, needs, and daily lives is an important part of the work we do at PathWays. We believe services should be flexible, person-centered, and built around what matters most to each individual and family.
Self-Directed Services, also known as Participant-Directed Services (PDS), allow individuals and families to have more choice and control over the services they receive and who provides them. These supports allow participants or their designated representative to help manage their own care and services. This can include hiring and training support staff, creating schedules, supervising services, and choosing supports that best fit their lifestyle and goals. Workers in this program can include family members and/or people the individual already knows and trusts, depending on program guidelines and individual needs.
Depending on an individual’s approved support plan, self-directed services may include:
- In-Home and Community Supports
- Companion
- Respite
- Supported Employment
- Homemaker/Chore
- Supports Broker
Self-direction is designed to promote independence, flexibility, and personalized support. It allows services to be built around the individual while helping people remain connected to their families, schools, workplaces, and communities.
We understand that every person’s journey is unique. Self-Directed Services provide individuals and families with the opportunity to create supports that work best for them and their everyday lives.
