Technology continues to play an important role in home and community-based services, helping individuals and families receive reliable, person-centered care. One system families may hear about is Electronic Visit Verification (EVV).
EVV is a system used to confirm that certain Medicaid-funded home and community-based services were provided as scheduled. Federal guidelines require EVV for many in-home personal care and home health services.
EVV systems verify important visit details, including:
- The type of service provided
- The individual receiving services
- The date and time of the visit
- The caregiver providing support
- The location where services were delivered
Many families have questions about privacy. EVV does not continuously track individuals throughout the day. The system is designed only to verify required visit information related to services provided in the home. For PathWays’ Agency With Choice (AWC) program, EVV is required to document the start and end location of each completed shift.
At PathWays, we understand that new systems and technology can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our goal is to help individuals, families, and caregivers feel informed and supported throughout every stage of care. By improving documentation and accountability, EVV helps ensure individuals continue receiving the important services and supports they rely on each day.
For additional information, families can visit the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services or the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
