This week, Pathways Rainbow’s End Learning Center in Washington brought its World Animals Week theme to life with a special visit from Wild World of Animals, an educational organization that has spent more than 30 years sharing its passion for wildlife through interactive programs.
Children had the opportunity to meet animals from around the world, including an alligator, armadillo, turtle, tortoise, kangaroo, lemur, snake, owl, sloth, scorpion, and several others. The experience helped engage students and gave them a chance to see these incredible animals up close while learning about their unique characteristics, habitats, and behaviors.
Throughout the presentation, students learned fun facts about each animal, including how to tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile and what makes turtles and tortoises unique. The visit even sparked curiosity throughout the room, as many children eagerly raised their hands to ask questions and share their excitement about the animals. They also learned the importance of showing kindness and respect by remaining quiet and calm, especially around younger animals and those experiencing their first live presentations.
Experiences like these do more than introduce children to wildlife, they help spark learning and curiosity. As it turns out, these experiences have benefits that go far beyond the excitement of meeting new animals. Research has found that interacting with and learning about animals can help children build empathy, strengthen social skills, and spark curiosity about the world around them.
