My daughter was born with asymmetrical brachycephaly — a misshaped skull resulting from positioning in the womb. Treatment involves a specially designed helmet to correct the condition as the child grows. Since the helmet is heavy, it can affect a child’s balance, which impacts crawling and muscular development. When my pediatrician recommended occupational therapy to help overcome the difficulties created by the helmet, I chose PathWays’ Early Intervention program. Since I work full time, the therapist would come to my daughter’s daycare to work with her several days a week. When she no longer needed the helmet, we continued with therapy to adjust to the latest changes in her life. Now when you see my little girl, you would never guess the obstacles she faced before she even reached her first birthday. PathWays’ Early Intervention helped her overcome those early difficulties.
